Neglecting to have your brakes regularly serviced is not a good idea. It can result in more damage over time and affect the resale value of your vehicle. Keep the following signs in mind to decide whether you need a brake inspection or repair.

When you press down on the brake pedal, you may notice that it feels like pressing on a sponge. It also may take pressing down lower than usual to get the brakes to work. Any vibrations or shaking when you try to brake are also signs of a brake problem. It may take longer for you to stop than normal. There may be a screeching sound when you brake.

In addition to those signs, your brake alert light may come on as a warning on the dash. Most vehicles require brake service at least every 12,000 miles to avoid major issues.
