Your vehicle requires a variety of belts and hoses to function properly here in Hardeeville and beyond. At O.C. Welch Lincoln, we wanted to take a minute to talk about some of the more important ones found underneath your hood. Understanding how important these parts are is key to understanding how important their maintenance is.
Your timing belt is crucial. It causes the crankshaft to turn the camshaft in your engine, which in turn opens and closes valves in time with the pistons. If this belt were to break, your vehicle would stop running immediately. Serious damage to other parts of the engine can also occur, so it is important to have the belt looked at frequently.
The serpentine belt is also important because it powers many of your vehicle's components. One of those components is your water pump, so while your car will still run with a broken serpentine belt, it will be seriously damaged in the process. There are a variety of hoses that connect different components underneath your hood, including the radiator and power steering. They, too, need frequent inspections to keep your car running its best.
